Day 604: Annual Vet Visit

A few days after my last post, we stopped having Butter on her cone.
It was too hard to look at. She was on the cone for over a year and since my mother was off from work for awhile, she stayed at home all day and looked after Butter, transiting her from wearing cone to not wearing one at all. She still itches and kicks her own skin, but it's manageable and definitely don't require a cone.

We tried the Dermacton cream I mentioned in my previous post but unfortunately it makes her itch even worse. I don't think it's the ingredients of the cream, it's probably just feels icky on her neck since there's something sticky and creamy on it. We stopped using it after a few days, but one thing we discovered is that it made her fur grow back on her neck. We were so amazed! We will definitely want to use the cream again, but probably on days when there's someone at home to look after her.

So it's vet day today.
We went simply to check on her ALT and ALKP levels and have a short consultation with the doctor on her liver shunt. Her bloodwork is perfect. She's as healthy as a dog can be internally. The vet suspects that the itch she's feeling are environmental allergies so she prescribed anti-histamines for Butter. I'll probably use that once and see how it works out. If she really stop itching for even abit, I'll let her be on it whenever it gets bad. Well the sad thing is, a liver shunt will never close on its own so our goal is to keep her at her current bloodwork status. Butter is lively and active, if not for her itch I would never think she's anywhere near unhealthy.

So after almost twenty months of raw feeding, Butter is in tip-top condition.
She might have had a perfect bloodwork earlier just that we didn't do a blood test but all is good WOOHOO.
